This scheme is specifically designed for individuals who earn their livelihood through daily wage labor, rickshaw pulling, domestic work, street vending, agricultural work, or other small-scale occupations.
Millions of workers in the country’s unorganized sector toil day and night to earn their daily bread; however, they often lack robust financial security for the future. As they age and their capacity to work diminishes, they frequently face financial hardships. Recognizing this critical issue, the Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana.
This scheme is tailored specifically for those who sustain themselves through daily wage labor, rickshaw pulling, domestic work, street vending, agricultural activities, or other small-scale jobs. The objective of this scheme is to ensure that such workers receive a fixed monthly pension after the age of 60, thereby guaranteeing a secure and dignified old age. In this context, let us understand how one can reactivate a Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana account if it has been frozen.
What is the Scheme, and How Does It Work?
The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana is a pension scheme open to individuals aged between 18 and 40 years. It requires a small monthly contribution, the amount of which is determined based on the subscriber’s age. If an individual joins the scheme at the age of 18, they are required to contribute approximately ₹55 per month. Conversely, if someone joins at an older age, they are required to make a slightly higher contribution. A key highlight of this scheme is that the government contributes an amount equal to the subscriber’s contribution into their account.
What Benefits Are Received After Age 60?
Once a beneficiary reaches the age of 60, they begin receiving a monthly pension of at least ₹3,000. This pension continues for the remainder of their life. In the unfortunate event of the beneficiary’s demise, their spouse (wife or husband) becomes eligible to receive 50 percent of the pension amount. This provision ensures that the family continues to receive financial support.
Why Does an Account Get Frozen?
It often happens that beneficiaries are unable to make their monthly contributions on time; consequently, the account gets frozen due to the non-payment of consecutive installments. Additionally, insufficient funds in the bank account or a failed auto-debit transaction can also be contributing factors.
How to Reactivate a Frozen Account?
If your account has been frozen, there is no need to panic. You can easily reactivate it. To do so, you must pay all outstanding (missed) installments. You also need to deposit the nominal interest and penalties applicable to these dues. Complete the necessary formalities by visiting your nearest CSC center or the relevant designated center. Once this is done, your account will be reactivated, and you will be able to continue availing the benefits of the scheme. To open or reactivate an account, an Aadhaar card, bank passbook, mobile number, and a passport-sized photograph are mandatory requirements.
