5 kg Gas Cylinder: The government is now extending the facility of 5 kg LPG cylinders to workers and low-income families. What steps must be taken to obtain a connection? Get all the details here.
5 kg Gas Cylinder: Amidst the rising demand for LPG in the country, the government has taken a significant decision. Now, with a focus on workers and low-income families, priority is being given to smaller 5 kg LPG cylinders. The objective is to extend gas connections to those for whom the standard 14.2 kg cylinder is either too expensive or difficult to refill in a single payment.
Specifically, daily wage earners, migrant workers, and residents of urban slums will directly benefit from this decision. Thanks to the smaller cylinders, people will be able to refill their gas supplies according to their specific needs and budget, thereby reducing financial pressure. Find out how workers can apply for a connection for the small 5 kg LPG cylinder.
How to Obtain a 5 kg LPG Connection?
The government has simplified this process by integrating this facility with existing schemes. To obtain a 5 kg LPG connection, the primary requirement is that the applicant’s household must not already possess an existing gas connection. Applications are typically submitted in the name of a female member of the household, who must be 18 years of age or older. Essential documents—such as an Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, Bank Account details, and a passport-sized photograph—are required for the application.
If a worker is a migrant and does not possess complete proof of a local address, they may still apply by submitting a self-declaration. There are two methods for obtaining a connection: The first involves visiting a nearby gas agency to fill out the application form and submit the necessary documents. The second method allows for online application, where the form is filled out and the preferred gas company is selected. Once the verification process is complete, the connection is issued.
What Are the Benefits?
The most significant advantage of the 5 kg cylinder is its affordability and accessibility. For low-income families, refilling this cylinder is much easier, as it requires a smaller upfront expenditure. The government also provides assistance with the security deposit and initial setup costs, making it even easier to obtain a connection. In many cases, the first cylinder and stove are also provided free of cost, thereby virtually eliminating the initial financial burden. Given the current situation regarding LPG cylinders in the country, this initiative by the government is considered highly beneficial for migrant workers.
