A brave corgi has defied the odds after leading his six neighbourhood friends on a two-day journey home after being dognapped. The corgi was snatched from his home in a small village in rural China alongside six other dogs from his neighbourhood - including a golden retriever and a German shepherd.
They were reportedly destined for China’s meat trade, butthe courageous pack managed to chew through their cages and escape from the van, according to South China Post. With only their noses to guide them, they set out on a mammoth 10-mile journey home to their owners, protecting each other every step of the way.
During their journey, they braved heavy traffic on motorways and navigated the vast wheat fields of Changchun.
Leading the group was a corgi named Dapang, who walked ahead to keep them on track, determined to reunite his friends with their families.
The dogs moved in a specific formation throughout their journey, protecting the German shepherd, who suffered a serious injury during their escape.
They refused to leave him behind and made sure to take plenty of breaks so he could catch his breath, according to onlookers.
Meanwhile, the golden retriever acted as a “sentry” on the perimeter of the pack, scanning their surroundings for danger and encouraging the others forward.
A driver captured the group navigating a motorway during their journey home, and the clip has since gone viral on social media.
One witness told Chinese outlet Dahe Daily: "They resemble a band of little brothers in distress, moving in unison - nothing like stray dogs."
After covering 10 miles in two days with nothing but their instincts to guide them, all of the dogs were reunited with their owners.
The owner of the German shepherd and the golden retriever said: "We are so lucky they came back - not to be eaten."
Speaking about her corgi’s bravery, the owner said Dapang is known for his intelligence and that she never doubted he wouldn't find his way home.
