Government Telecom Company BSNL is a government Indian telecom operator, the company is now working on bringing CNAP (Caller Name Presentation) service for the users. BSNL has already deployed the solution and is now in the integration phase. According to ET report, an industry executive said that Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have done this for the first time. The solution has already been deployed for BSNL and integration is now happening zone wise.
Integration will take some time. The executive said, after integration, the complete rollout of CNAP for BSNL will be done within 3 to 4 months. With the CNAP service going live, customers will be able to see who is calling them, even if the caller's number is not saved in their phone. Private telecom operators have already made it live.
CNAP service is similar to what Truecaller provides to customers. The only difference is that the CNAP service takes its name from the records maintained by operators while collecting data during the KYC (Know Your Customer) process. So the name that appears is actually the same name that is given to the telecom companies while purchasing the SIM card. Therefore, this service gives more accurate name information to the people.
Third-party applications including Truecaller already provide services through crowdsourced data, but sometimes this data can be inaccurate. The decision to launch CNAP has been taken in view of the increasing cases of spam communication and scams. Due to spam and scam, people have also lost money due to digital arrest etc.
