Shah Rukh Khan is all set to entertain fans with his next offering, King. With a mega-star cast and King Khan's charm, fans are eagerly waiting for this Christmas release. However, it looks like the film is facing major competition from Hollywood films. Will this affect Shah Rukh Khan’s film at the box office?

King faces major competition from Hollywood films

Shah Rukh Khan's King is much-awaited; however, the film's box office may be affected by Hollywood films releasing around the Christmas holiday. While Dune: Part Three, and Avengers: Doomsday, two of the most anticipated films of the year, are all set to release on December 18, Jumanji 3 has postponed its release to Christmas. For the uninitiated, Shah Rukh Khan's King is releasing on December 24.

That means SRK's film will drop 6 days after Dune: Part Three, and Avengers: Doomsday and will directly clash with Jumanji 3 at the box office.

As per American cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part 3 is the most anticipated film of 2026. Followed by Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Avengers: Doomsday, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Will SRK’s film King be able to compete with international films at a domestic level? Guess we will have to wait until Christmas to know.

King storyline revealed

According to India Today, King will follow two timelines, giving the story a fresh twist. Shah Rukh Khan will play the same character at different ages, a younger version and an older one. In the younger timeline, he will face Raghav Juyal as one of the villains. Later, the older SRK will go up against Abhishek Bachchan, who plays the second major antagonist.

King also marks Suhana Khan’s big-screen debut, following her OTT debut in The Archies. It serves as her theatrical launchpad and her first film alongside her father, Shah Rukh Khan.

Abhishek Bachchan, who is playing the villain, is undergoing a massive transformation for his role. As reported by Pinkvilla, Anand has designed a specific character for Bachchan in King, which requires him to have a lean body.

“Siddharth Anand is planning to present Abhishek Bachchan like never before in King as Jr. B will have a special look in this action-packed entertainer. The idea is to create a character that has a menacing appearance, with a certain kind of physique. Abhishek has already started to hit the gym to attain a lean physique in King. It’s going to be a face-off like never before between Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan in King,” the source said.

The film is directed by Siddharth Anand and written by Sujoy Ghosh.
