A UK furniture manufacturer has entered liquidation. A notice regarding the development was published this morning in the London Gazette, the UK's official public record. The notice reveals that Sofa Point UK Ltd, located in Birmingham, fell into liquidation on March 19, 2026. The nature of business on the notice is described as the "manufacturing of furniture". According to Companies House, the company was incorporated in July 2021, less than five years ago.

The company has not issued a statement about entering liquidation, so no reason has been given for the move. The firm entered Creditor's Voluntary Liquidation (CVL), a process whereby a company cannot pay its debts and decides to put itself into liquidation, sell its assets and pay back its creditors. In this scenario, companies usually decide to enter liquidation rather than being forced to do so as a result of a creditor presenting a winding-up petition.

According to the Gazette, this will usually be appropriate if the company is unlikely to be able to trade out of its difficulties. The notice regarding Sofa Point UK Ltd reads: "At a General Meeting of the Members of the above-named Company, duly convened, and held at 1 Victoria Square, Birmingham B1 1BD on Thursday 19 March 2026, the following Resolution/s was/were duly passed:

"1. (Special Resolution) That the company be wound up voluntarily

"2. (Ordinary Resolution) That Mansoor Mubarik of Capital Books (UK) Limited, 66 Earl Street, Maidstone, Kent, ME14 1PS, United Kingdom (office holder no 009667) be and is hereby appointed Liquidator for the purpose of such winding up."

The company's website, sofapointukltd.com, is not currently active. Visitors to the site get a message from Shopify, the cloud-based e-commerce platform, that reads: "Sorry, this store is currently unavailable."

However, its status on Companies House is still listed as "active". Sofa Point UK Ltd has a registered office and principal trading address at Unit-11-201 Coventry Road, Small Heath, Birmingham B10 0RA.

While it has not explicitly explained its reasons for entering voluntary liquidation, a number of similar businesses have either entered liquidation or administration over the last few months, blaming things like increased prices for materials and high energy costs, which make for difficult trading conditions.
