The Indian Army has started a new Shaurya Squadron by incorporating drone technology in its tank regiments. Its purpose is to increase the capability of tanks in wars. This step has been taken keeping future wars in mind. It is being told that the army has taken this decision by taking lessons from recent wars.
In recent times, wars like America-Israel and Iran, Russia-Ukraine war, Operation Sindoor and Gaza conflict have made it understood that now the war cannot be won only with tanks, cannons and infantry. After infantry and artillery, now the armored regiments of the Indian Army are also going to form their own separate drone unit. These have been named Shaurya Squadron. Its purpose is to increase the capability of tanks in wars. According to sources, this initiative was given further impetus after Operation Sindoor. Earlier, Ashni platoons were also formed in the Infantry.
According to sources, the Army has prepared about 6 Shaurya Squadrons, which are also being deployed in different commands. The work of these squadrons is to monitor the enemy through drones, attack targets and gather real-time information. Recently, the strength of these bravery squadrons was demonstrated in the Amogh Jwala Exercise held in Babina, Uttar Pradesh. In this exercise, the capability of multi-domain warfare was tested by using tanks, attack helicopters, fighter jets and drones together.
Shaurya Squadron is a company level drone unit. He has to work directly on the frontline with the tanks. An armored company consists of about 10-12 tanks and more than 100 soldiers. It is being told that the soldiers in these squadrons are being specially trained in drone operations. They have modern weapons like surveillance drones, attack drones and loitering munitions. Drones will be used not only for attacks but also for tasks like electronic warfare, laying and removing mines, supply and medical aid. By connecting drones with tanks, the army will get accurate information about the enemy's position, movement and weapons, which will make the attacks more effective.
At present the Indian Army has more than 67 armored units, which include more than 5000 tanks. These include tanks like T-90 Bhishma, T-72 Ajeya and Arjun Mk1A. The Army is now preparing to further increase the number of Shaurya Squadron in the coming time, so that the strength of the tank regiments can be further increased. Looking at the current wars, it is being said that drones have now become very important in every war. He has now become a game changer. Which has changed the direction of modern warfare. Therefore, now the Army has decided that it will not depend only on tanks or armored vehicles but will make its firepower more lethal by equipping it with drones.
