Nirav Modi's escape attempt failed, path cleared for extradition, London High Court rejected the petition

The London High Court has rejected Nirav Modi's petition. It is being told that Nirav Modi had demanded reopening of his extradition case to India. In India, he is accused of being linked to the ₹13,000 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. Nirav Modi, a fugitive diamond trader, had approached the High Court of Justice, King's Bench Division, to challenge his extradition.

The Crown Prosecution Service lawyer argued vigorously on this matter, in which he also got full support from a dedicated team of CBI. This team also included the investigating officers who had specially gone to London for the hearing. Modi's petition was based on the verdict in the case of arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. However, the coordinated efforts of CBI successfully overcame this challenge. The court ruled that Modi's petition and the circumstances surrounding it were not extraordinary enough to warrant reopening the case.

CBI has been demanding extradition since 2018

The CBI has been demanding Modi's extradition since 2018, as he was involved in a major financial scam involving a public sector bank. UK courts approved his extradition following his arrest in 2019, and he has since rejected all previous appeals; He has cleared the legal hurdles and has accepted the assurances given regarding his treatment in India.

What are the allegations against Nirav Modi?

Nirav Modi is accused of defrauding PNB along with his maternal uncle Mehul Choksi. Modi alone faces allegations of embezzlement of ₹6,498.20 crore. The positive outcome of this legal battle underlines the continued efforts of the Government of India and its commitment to bring him to justice.
