Ahmedabad, March 26, 2026: Around 50 residents were safely evacuated after a fire broke out in a high-rise residential building in Shela on Thursday morning. This was possible due to the prompt action of fire personnel and the building’s working safety systems. The fire was reported at around 7:58 am in Flat C-302, located on the 3rd floor of Sky City Riviera Elite (also known as Sky City), near O7 Road. The flames and thick smoke quickly spread to the upper floors, prompting immediate emergency action. As a precautionary measure, around 40-50 residents were first taken to the terrace and then brought down safely via stairs.
Fire officials attributed the initial efforts to extinguish the fire to the fire suppression system installed inside the building; With the help of this system the fire was brought under control to a great extent before additional help could arrive. “The fire was brought under control in time. There was no injury or casualty in the incident,” a senior official said.
A large team of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services responded quickly to the incident and sent 18 vehicles to the spot—including six 20 KL capacity water tankers, one 12 KL tanker, one hydraulic platform, one mini fire tender, several first responder vehicles and one ambulance. In total, 73 personnel took part in the operation, including firefighters, officers, drivers and support staff. Firefighters focused on extinguishing the fire as well as extinguishing the smoke so that people could be evacuated safely.
The fire appeared to have started from a single flat on the third floor and spread upwards; This was likely caused by flammable materials inside the flat, although the exact cause of the fire is still being investigated. The authorities have also launched a detailed investigation into the fire safety arrangements in the building and compliance with safety- norms.
Due to this quick and well-planned action of the fire department, panic among the people and any major accident was prevented; This incident once again highlights the importance of effective fire safety systems in high-rise buildings. All residents, including families living on the upper floors, were evacuated safely without any hindrance.
