Tense atmosphere in AP’s Akividu after attack on Raghurama Krishnam Raju

Amaravathi: A tense situation prevailed in Akividu of West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, following an attack on Undi MLA and Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju, which resulted in some of Jana Sena activists being injured.

As per reports, there was a land issue concerning the Ramalayam in the village between two groups in the village for quite some time. One of the two groups invited Raghurama Krishnam Raju to the temple, to take part in the Sri Rama Navami rituals on Friday.

Tensions flared up just as Raghurama Krishnam Raju was about to leave the location.

One group allegedly attacked the deputy speaker with stones, nails and sticks. The Jana Sena activists who were following behind him formed a protection cover. However, the attackers pounced on the Jana Sena activists, leaving some of them seriously injured in the attack.

The police escorted the deputy speaker away from the scene.

The injured persons were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, a heavy police force has been deployed in the village to control the situation and maintain law and order.

A pre-planned attack to murder me: AP Dy Speaker

Raghurama Krishnam Raju said that it was a deliberate and planned attempt to murder him by a group of people claiming to be Hindus, but were acting under the shadow of another religion.

He claimed that the attack wasn’t spontaneous, and that on Thursday evening itself some of the attackers from a particular community came to the village from outside.

He said that the century-old temple was being opposed by a particular group, and that they were not even allowing the temple to be cleaned.

He also said that those who attacked him came in the guise of Ram Bhakts, but ambushed him suddenly. he said he narrowly escaped the attempt to murder him.

Warning that such incidents would turn into a grave threat for the society if not nipped from the bud, the deputy speaker demanded that the police identify the attackers and take stringent action against them.
