Sainsbury's supermarket is reportedly offering a "significant reduction in fuel prices" across the UK in a major boost to petrol and diesel drivers. According to experts at PetrolPrices, Sainsbury's has cut costs at the pumps in a welcome relief to motorists across the country.

Petrol and diesel fuel costs have soared in March, with data from RAC Fuel Watch revealing Unleaded petrol is up 17p per litre and diesel up 34.3p per litre. The increased costs have been a blow to road users, with motorists having to dig into their wallets to stay on the roads.

However, PetrolPrices has claimed Sainsbury's has cut diesel prices by as much as 7p per litre at 314 forecourts. According to experts, the majority of locations have applied the full 7p per litre cut.

Meanwhile, unleaded petrol prices have also been cut, with fees lowered by up to 4 pence per litre. According to RAC Fuel Watch, Sainsbury's is now the UK's cheapest fuel station, with diesel costs standing at 163.9p per litre. This is a staggering 6p per litre cheaper than Tesco which is charging customers 169.8p per litre, with Asda next on 170.3p and Morrisons on 171p.

Petrol fees are also significantly lower at Sainsbury's, with prices recorded at 141.2p per litre, almost 4p lower than Tesco's 144.8p. Morrisons was the third cheapest for petrol at 145.2p per litre, followed by Asda at 145.4p per litre. PetrolPrices have still urged motorists to continue shopping around and using online platforms to find the best rates.

The changing nature of fuel prices means that costs can dramatically vary on an often minute-by-minute basis.

A spokesperson for PetrolPrices said: "Prices can still vary significantly between locations, so it's important that motorists compare prices locally to make sure they're getting the best deal every time they fill up."

The RAC has warned petrol has broken through the unwelcome milestone of 150p a litre (150.11p) on average. They explained these prices were something drivers haven't seen since mid-May two years ago, with diesel fees now at 177.68p nationally.

RAC's Simon Williams said: "With the long-awaited four-day Easter weekend almost within touching distance, the cost of getting away by car is going to be noticeably higher this year."
