Balendra Shah was sworn in as Nepal’s 47th Prime Minister by President Ramchandra Paudel. The 35-year-old, who rose to prominence as Kathmandu’s mayor, marks a generational shift in leadership. His appointment follows recent elections where the Rastriya Swatantra Party emerged as the largest party.

Kathmandu: Balendra Shah, popularly known as ‘Balen’, was sworn in as Nepal’s 47th Prime Minister on Friday in a formal ceremony at the Office of the President, marking a remarkable rise from an independent mayor to the country’s top political office.

Oath Ceremony at President’s Office

Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shah after appointing him under Article 76(1) of the Constitution.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, former prime ministers, senior officials, security chiefs, and members of the diplomatic community.
