A relatively obscure, award-winning series boasting a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which devoted fans confess to watching 'until 3am', can now be rediscovered courtesy of HBO Max.
The brand new streaming service officially launched in the UK this week and while it features some familiar favourites such as Friends and Succession, it also showcases a number of criminally underrated hidden gems.
Among these is the comedy series Somebody Somewhere, which originally broadcast between 2022 and 2024.
All three series are now available to stream through HBO Max. Even better, there are several ways to gain access to the new library, meaning more opportunities for viewers to watch every episode.
It can be accessed either through its own dedicated streaming platform or as an add-on subscription via the Prime Video platform.
There are further options available too, as those already subscribed to Sky TV or holding an entertainment pass for NOW will also find HBO Max's content included.
So there has never been a better moment to uncover the underrated treasure that is Somebody Somewhere. The series centres on Sam, portrayed by comedian Bridget Everett, who is navigating the recent loss of her sister after returning home to care for her during her terminal illness.
Underneath it all, she battles to conform to the hometown expectations and its standards. As she wrestles with grief and coming to terms with reality, Sam discovers solace in singing.
It takes her on a path to find herself and a group of misfits who refuse to conform but never surrender, demonstrating that discovering kindred spirits and one's voice is always achievable.
The series examines the themes of transformation and development despite overwhelming obstacles, reports the Mirror.
Impressively, all three seasons of the programme have achieved a flawless score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes as each have garnered substantial acclaim from reviewers. The programme even secured a coveted Peabody Award, which recognises excellence in quality storytelling.
After its conclusion, Jeff Hiller claimed an unexpected Emmy for Best Supporting Actor owing to his portrayal as Joel. He triumphed over the likes of Colman Domingo, Harrison Ford and The Bear's Ebon Moss-Bachrach to secure victory.
Viewers who have already watched the series remain vocal in their admiration including one who maintains it is "one of the greatest shows HBO put out" while another declared it is "one of the best shows on TV. The casting, writing, and acting are all incredible."
Someone else confessed: "At first I wasn't sure about this show, as it just isn't my genre but I love Bridget Everett so I gave it a try. Then I finished the first episode, and the second and the third and next thing I knew I realised I was watching until 3am and season one was over."
One viewer remarked: "Brilliant, touching, authentic. Could not stop watching. It's so engaging." While another offered their verdict: "What a gem of a show! Honestly, this show took me by surprise. In so many ways, it is a commentary of friendship, community, and family and the ways that people grow and evolve together."
Somebody Somewhere is streaming on HBO Max, also accessible via Prime Video, Sky and NOW.
