New Delhi. For the first time, Home Minister Amit Shah has broken his silence on the relief given to former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal from the lower court in the alleged liquor scam. Speaking in a program on a private TV channel, Shah made it clear that the investigating agencies have strong evidence against Kejriwal and other accused. He said that there are still many stages left in the legal process, hence no one should distribute the certificate of ‘staunch honesty’ in haste.

Amit Shah bluntly on the label of ‘staunchly honest’

Referring to the justice system, the Home Minister said that in our country there are three levels of courts – Sessions Court, High Court and Supreme Court. Questioning the claims of Arvind Kejriwal and his party, he said that until the final decision of the Supreme Court comes, no one should be labeled as ‘staunchly honest’. According to Shah, the decision of the lower court has been challenged in the High Court and he is confident that the charge sheet filed by the investigating agency is strong and there is enough evidence to prosecute the case.

Shah’s sharp taunt on Kejriwal’s defeat

During the program, when Amit Shah was asked that Arvind Kejriwal is claiming himself innocent and saying that the ‘countdown’ to becoming Prime Minister has started, Shah taunted with a smile. Referring to Kejriwal’s defeat from New Delhi Assembly seat to Pravesh Verma, he said, “If someone has to dream during the day, no one can save him.” Shah advised that instead of counting down the countdown of others, Kejriwal should introspect on his own defeat, which would be better for the future of his party.

Legal battle from lower court to Supreme Court

Let us tell you that the trial court had acquitted Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and 23 other accused in the alleged liquor scam of Delhi. During this time, the court had also made strict comments on the functioning of CBI. However, the CBI has approached the Delhi High Court against this decision, where Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma is hearing the case. On the other hand, Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court demanding change of bench. At present, the High Court has stayed the comments of the lower court against CBI.

The biggest issue of Delhi politics

The alleged liquor scam has been at the center of the country’s politics for the last few years. BJP has been continuously calling it the biggest example of corruption, while Aam Aadmi Party has been calling it a political conspiracy. This issue was also highlighted in the recent elections of Delhi and it is believed that the discussion of this scam was a major reason behind the electoral defeat of Aam Aadmi Party. Now everyone’s eyes are on the next steps of the High Court and the Supreme Court.
