Lalu and Sukkamma's son Ram Koti left this world in the year 2003. The reason was his incomplete love story, which was not allowed to be completed by the restrictions of society and family. Inconsolable Ram Koti committed suicide and after some time his girlfriend also died.
This double grief shook the family, but then a unique sequence began. Sukkamma says that her son came in her dreams and expressed her desire to get him married. To fulfill this last wish of the son, the parents built a small temple in the house, where the idols of Ram Koti and his girlfriend were installed.
Surprisingly, for the last 23 years, this couple has been conducting the marriage of their deceased son and his girlfriend with full Hindu rituals every year on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. Chanting of mantras, traditional rituals, puja and prasad – everything happens just like in a wedding of a living couple.
With time, this event is no longer a private matter of just one family, but has now become the center of faith of the entire village. On the day of Ram Navami, villagers gather here in large numbers and witness this unique marriage. This tradition shows how a family turned to faith to heal their deep wounds and turn a tragic ending into a celebration of 'dying love'.
