Mangaluru/Udupi: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts were hit by heavy rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds, resulting in significant damage. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next two days, predicting continued heavy rainfall across the region.
Widespread destruction in Kadaba
In Kadaba taluk, intense wind and rain on Saturday evening caused extensive property loss. Fallen trees blocked the Uppinangady-Kadaba-Subrahmanya state highway at multiple points, disrupting traffic. Near the Perabe Gram Panchayat, a massive tree crashed onto a power line, pulling down a nearby transformer and several electricity poles, leading to a complete power outage in the area. Local residents eventually cleared the debris to restore vehicle movement.
The storm also destroyed numerous flex banners installed for the Sharavu Brahmakalashotsava and other local events. In Kodimbayal and surrounding areas of Koila village, areca nut plantations suffered heavy losses as trees were snapped by the wind. Roofs of several houses and solar tarpaulins used for drying areca nuts were blown away, while banana and coconut plantations also reported damage. In Alankaru, pandals erected at the temple for religious festivities were damaged, and several welcome arches collapsed.
