Domdooma, March 29: As the Assam Legislative Assembly elections approach, Sumit Sattawan, the district election officer and commissioner of Tinsukia, organized an important meeting on Friday with all 28 candidates and political representatives from the six constituencies within the Tinsukia election district.

The meeting took place in the conference hall of the district commissioner's office in Tinsukia, with a primary focus on ensuring compliance with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) to promote free, fair, and peaceful elections.

During the meeting, the DEO emphasized the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission of India, highlighting the necessity of adhering to the MCC both in principle and practice. Candidates and their representatives were encouraged to stay alert and avoid any breaches of the code throughout the campaign.

In a call for unity, the DEO urged political parties to foster peace and harmony within the district. He warned against any divisive actions or statements that could provoke unrest or disrupt public order, advising candidates to avoid making inflammatory or personal comments.

To ensure administrative readiness, the DEO announced that law enforcement agencies, expenditure monitoring teams, and flying squads have been deployed throughout the district to effectively enforce the MCC. Political parties were asked to fully cooperate with the administration and police.

Sattawan also highlighted the importance of the cVIGIL app for reporting MCC violations and the Suvidha app for securing prior permissions for rallies, public meetings, and other campaign-related events.

A total of 28 candidates are contesting across the six Assembly constituencies in the Tinsukia election district, with five candidates in Sadiya, two in Doomdooma, three in Margherita, five in Digboi, five in Makum, and eight in Tinsukia.

Polling is set for April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
