“We don’t want this kind of money,” said a woman from Mainpuri after a staggering Rs.10 crore was unexpectedly credited to her bank account, leaving her and her family in shock.

The incident came to light from Devganj village in the Bichhwan area of Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district. Rita Devi, a resident of the village, was stunned when she received a message on her phone informing her that nearly Rs.10 crore had been deposited into her Bank of India savings account.

Alarmed by the unexpected transaction, she immediately rushed to the bank and informed the officials, following which an investigation was initiated.

News of the massive deposit spread rapidly across the village. Rita Devi’s son even recorded a video while checking the balance at an ATM, which quickly went viral on social media. The family, however, believed it to be a mistake and chose to notify the bank instead of celebrating the windfall.

What is the full story?

According to reports, Rs.9,99,49,588 (approximately Rs.10 crore) was suddenly credited to Rita Devi’s savings account at the Bank of India’s Sultan Ganj branch. At the time, she was working in the fields when she received the message, leaving her completely stunned. Until then, her account had a balance of just Rs.45,000.

Suspicious about the message, she went to an ATM with her son to verify the balance. Seeing crores displayed on the screen left the family in disbelief. Her son captured the moment on video, which soon went viral online.

Rita Devi said she initially did not believe the message and only trusted it after checking the ATM balance. “We don’t want such money,” she said. Her son added, “It is better to remain honest. We are scared and want the bank to resolve this issue quickly.”

The family, which depends on farming for a living, grew anxious after seeing the huge amount in their account and promptly informed bank officials. Authorities are now investigating whether the deposit was made due to a technical error or if there is another reason behind it.
