Saiyaara actor Aneet Padda recently faced intense backlash on social media when her sister Reet Padda’s recent comments on political films like Dhurandhar went viral. Not only she got trolled, Aneet bore the brunt too. Reet also deleted her Instagram account amid the criticism. Here's everything that’s happened so far:

When Aneet’s sister Reet Padda boldly expressed her political views and called movies like, Dhurandhar, The Kashmir Files, and The Kerala Story ‘proapaganda’, little did she know that she will land at the receiving end of internet’s wrath.

As soon as her comments got viral, Reet made her Instagram account private. After the trolling increased, she deleted her account.

Under Aneet’s Instagram posts, netizens criticised her for her sister’s remarks. Her comment section quickly got flooded with hate comments, with people calling her ‘anti-national’.

Recently, Reet commented on a post, replying to another netizen who did not agree with her political beliefs, particularly about films like Dhurandhar, The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story. Calling them propagandist films, she said that films like these push a “government-friendly narrative.”

She said, “First, the whole thing about calling films like Kashmir Files, Kerala Files, and Dhurandhar propaganda. For Dhurandhar, it literally serves as a government-friendly narrative, using political speeches to justify, say, the minor hiccup of demonetisation. Call it propaganda? Yep. Deny it? Not a chance. But maybe your definition of propaganda is… different, who knows.”

Questioning the struggles of Kashmiri Pandits, she also said that she further said that would love to hear real life accounts from people who actually faced the genocide.

She further wrote, “I never said the problems didn't exist, but these films clearly push a certain narrative and deviation is apparently optional. I'd love to hear about the 'real' ground reality from someone in the know… if only you weren’t hiding behind a faceless, anonymous account. Makes me wonder: if you actually are a Kashmiri Pandit, why haven’t you shared a single personal experience that actually matters? Curiosity, dear friend call it logical verification.”

Blasting the right-wing government, she also said that they were responsible for the “2002 genocide against Muslims”.

She further added, “I do not discriminate against anyone, ever, because I’m human. I am fully unafraid to take a stand, even if everyone else is yelling 'no!' at me. What I do discriminate against are political figures who drag religion into politics especially when the same politicians orchestrated the 2002 genocide against Muslims. That is terrorism, that is a crime, and I will call it out. Would anyone let a film about that pass without scrutiny? Doubtful. So, yes, I don’t discriminate against individuals. I do, however, discriminate against political dishonesty cloaked in religion. And yes, I'm unafraid to speak up, even if the majority doesn’t like it.”

Reet also brought up Priyanka Chopra’s controversial moment at the Oscars 2026 when she stood silently beside Javier Bardem as he announced, “Free Palestine”. Many criticised Chopra for maintaining an indifference demeanour on such a big platform, including Padda.

Aneet shot to fame with Mohit Suri’s 2025 blockbuster Saiyaara, in which she starred opposite Ahaan Pandey. The film, marked their Bollywood debuts, became a major sleeper hit.
