Kelvin and Liz Fletcher delivered a poignant update to audiences on the most recent episode of their ITV reality programme, Fletchers' Family Farm.
A new episode of Series 4 broadcast on Sunday (March 29) and depicted their Peak District farm covered in snow during the depths of winter.
In the latest chapter, audiences received a devastating update following the loss of the family's cherished cow, Cherry, which had featured prominently on the programme. Her death meant six-month-old calf Ezra was left motherless before he had been completely weaned.
Following the unforeseen death, the family have maintained Ezra under close monitoring in their barn, but Liz offered a sad update as she confessed she believed he still appeared "a little lost", reports the Manchester Evening News.
"He's done really well. It was quite brutal how he was parted from his mum," she began. "I do feel there's a look in his eye that he's a little lost."
Despite some worry for his wellbeing, Kelvin disclosed there was still optimism for the young animal, as one of the other calves had been watching over him.
He disclosed: "Thankfully in Cherry's absence, Ruby's young calf Elizabeth has been keeping an eye on Ezra." Liz added: "Elizabeth has been kind to him to be fair hasn't she? It's like she knew and has been his little partner."
Addressing Ezra's future on the farm, Kelvin revealed they would keep him in the barn a little longer before letting him join the other male cattle. He said: "As Ezra gets a little bit bigger, he'll probably stay in the shed for at least another month or so.
"What we'll do then is put him in with the boys. He'll go into a pen next door and join Crowther and Ray, then we've got three males that are all intact and it just allows us to be focussed a little bit more then on Ruby [their pregnant cow]."
Elsewhere in the episode, Kelvin and Liz opted to host their very first farmers' market. Donating the proceeds to charity and waiving pitch fees for vendors, the couple were filmed busily preparing for the event at their farm.
Now in their fifth year of farming, Liz, Kelvin and their four children have faced no shortage of challenges along the way. Last year, a devastating fire tore through the farm, rendering their home uninhabitable.
The harrowing incident was documented on their ITV show, with Liz and Kelvin filmed on camera sorting through their damaged possessions to salvage what they could. Thankfully, more than a year on from the blaze, the family were finally able to return home.
