A massive fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building near Bhajanpura in Delhi’s Chand Bagh area in the early hours of Sunday, following which the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) responded immediately.

The fire was reported around 2:30-2:32 am from F Block, Street No. 23. The initial deployment included four water tenders, one water bowser, one quick response vehicle, one turntable ladder and one mobile pump. The operation was led by Assistant Divisional Officer Deepak Hooda, along with Station Officer Anup Singh and Sub Officer Hari Shankar. The rescue operation was further intensified following the “Make-4” call, resulting in a total of 11 fire tenders reaching the spot. Firefighting units remained present until the fire was completely brought under control.

According to fire officer Anoop Singh, the spark of fire is expected to have originated from two scooters and a motorcycle parked on the ground floor. Before firefighters could arrive, four residents jumped from the first floor to escape the flames. He suffered minor injuries and was immediately taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital. These people were identified as Nikhat (22), Rashida (50), Soni (25) and Asif (2). Everyone was discharged from the hospital after first aid.

DFS personnel also successfully rescued four other people trapped on the upper floors (second, third and fourth). Those rescued included Suved (12), Duved (10), Arifa (28) and Farah (14). He was medically examined. There is no news of any casualty in this incident.

Investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Mahipal Singh of Dayalpur police station confirmed these details. Officials appreciated the coordinated efforts of the DFS teams to limit the damage in this densely populated area. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but two-wheelers parked on the ground floor are being considered as the possible cause of the fire.

The incident caused panic among the local people, but it also highlighted the effectiveness of quick intervention by the fire service. Authorities have assured residents of tight security arrangements in the area.
