CSK had yet another miserable day at the office with the bat when they locked horns with Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Asked to bat first at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, CSK were all out for 127 runs in 19.4 overs as none of their batters found any foothold on the wicket.

Sanju Samson, who was the early striker, perished for a mere 6 runs. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad made just 6 runs, Ayush Mhatre was cleaned up without getting any run against his name. Matthew Short also gave a good start but only made 2 runs. CSK were in a mess after the powerplay with only 41 runs on the board.

Sarfaraz Khan and Kartik Sharma made 17 and 18 runs respectively while Shivam Dube added a fiery 6-ball 6, but there was not anything substantial from either the batter as the wicket kept falling at regular intervals.

It was only Jamie Overton who battled till the end and played a valiant inning of 43 runs in 36 balls inclusive of two fours and two sixes before getting run out on the very last ball of the innings. Lower order batter Anshul Kamboj was at the other end and remained not out at 7 runs. However, 127 looks an under-par score on this wicket. To add to their misery, CSK conceded 16 runs in extras.

For the Royals, Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger accounted for 2 victims each while captain Sanju Samson removed Ravindra Jadeja as well who had picked up two wickets himself. Ravi Bishnoi, Sandeep Sharma and Brijesh Sharma scalped one wicket each to their name. Historically, Chennai have struggled to score freely against RR. Here are some of the CSK's lowest totals against the same opposition.

Score Overs RPO Venue Date
109 19.0 5.73 Jaipur 4 May 2008
125/5 20.0 6.25 Abu Dhabi 19 Oct 2020

140/6 20.0 7.00 Dubai (DICS) 23 Apr 2014
141/4 20.0 7.05 Jaipur 12 May 2013

As you can see from the numbers above CSK often fail to score big totals against Rajasthan Royals. In most of the cases this resulted in CSK losing the match apart from a solitary instance when CSK successfully defended 140/6 against the Royals in 2014 edition of the IPL.

CSK are going to rely on their bowlers to defend 127. Early wickets and tighter bowling will be important to seal the game while RR will look to chase it down with confidence.
