After spending a prolonged time fighting legal troubles in recent years, Alec Baldwin has finally bagged a significant part in Matt Ross’ upcoming directorial venture, Kockroach. As such, the Chris Hemsworth crime movie will be the first notable project that the SNL alum has undertaken since his involvement in the Rust shooting controversy.

Alec Baldwin joins cast of Chris Hemsworth-led Kockroach

According to Deadlinethe Kockroach team has officially added the 67-year-old Academy Award nominee to an already star-studded lineup. However, the exact nature of Baldwin’s role continues to remain under wraps for the time being.

Based on William Lashner’s 2007 novel of the same name, the Goodfellas-like crime drama follows the journey of a mysterious stranger who gets entangled in the messy crime underworld of New York. Determined to make it out on his own, the stranger rises up the ranks to become a grandiose mob boss in a city that bows to influential people with power.

Jonathan Ames of You Were Never Really Here fame has penned the screenplay for the movie, with director Matt Ross adding several revisions to the script. Meanwhile, Andrew Lazar and Christina Weiss Lurie have taken up producing duties for the project. Additionally, John Friedberg of Black Bear and Vanessa Humphrey of Mad Chance come in as the film’s executive producers.

Aside from Chris Hemsworth and Alec Baldwin, the cast of Kockroach also includes Taron Egerton and Zazie Beetz. Notably, this will be Baldwin’s first major role since Rust, with the shooting controversy briefly stalling the comedian/actor’s career.

During the filming of Rust in 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot when Baldwin reportedly fired a live round from a revolver he was using as a prop during a scene rehearsal (via BBC News). The actor subsequently faced a trial but eventually walked out in 2024 after the judge dismissed all charges against him.

At the time of writing, the Chris Hemsworth crime movie does not have an official release date, with filming set to commence in April 2026.
