Washington, March 31. US President Donald Trump has agreed to stop the conflict with Iran. ‘The Wall Street’ Journal quoted Trump government officials as saying that the President has told his colleagues that he is ready to end the US-Israel war with Iran, even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed.
Media reports say that Trump and his allies believe that trying to open a sea route that supplies oil to the world could prolong the war with Iran. Trump had set a time of four to six weeks to end this war, but because of this mission the war may extend beyond this time.
News agency Xinhua quoted officials as saying that Trump decided that America should focus on achieving its main objective of weakening Iran’s navy and missile stock. Diplomatic pressure should be exerted on Tehran to resume the free flow of trade through the strait.
Meanwhile, the US President has decided that if all these efforts fail, the White House will put pressure on European and Gulf allies to come forward in reopening it. Officials further said that military options are still on the table, but they are not President Trump’s immediate priority.
However, despite these assessments, Trump’s public messaging regarding the conflict with Iran has not been consistent. On Monday morning, he threatened to destroy all of Iran’s electric plants, oil wells and Kharg Island if a deal is not reached quickly.
Meanwhile, the government has taken steps to strengthen the US military presence in the region. Last week, the USS Tripoli and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit entered the area, and parts of the 82nd Airborne Division also began arriving.
According to The Wall Street Journal, deployment of 10,000 more ground troops is also being considered. Trump is also considering a difficult mission to capture Iran’s uranium enrichment.
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said on Monday that the US is working towards resuming normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. However, its reopening is not included in the main military objectives of the government. Trump’s main objective is to target Iran’s navy, missile program, defense industry and nuclear infrastructure.
