The calendar says March is the end of the month. Kalbaisakhi sometimes shows its power, but in the summer we are in a state of laughter. Everyone is gasping for breath as soon as they leave the house. The weather office predicts temperatures will reach the 40s in a few days. Everyone knows more or less the technique to keep themselves healthy in this hot sun, but what about four-legged friends? Let’s find out today how to take care of a pet in severe heatstroke.

1. Liquids leave the body of pets very quickly. Which is beyond anyone’s imagination. As a result, it is normal for them to get sick during summer. So try to keep them in relatively cool environment. Provide cold water. You can increase the amount of liquid in food, so that the body does not lack water.

2. Change feeding times. Try to feed early in the morning ie before sunrise and after sunset. Because heavy food in hot weather slows down the digestion process. Try to feed little by little without giving too much at once.

3. If you have to take your pet out in the hot sun, check the soil temperature. If your palm can’t withstand that temperature for five seconds, then you know it’s too much for them. But try not to go out before sunset. Use the ointment on the soles of the feet i.e. thumbpads.

4. Keep in mind, they also get heatstroke. So if you have excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, blurred vision, take it to a cool place immediately. Wrap the body with wet cloth. Get veterinary help immediately.

5. Make sure that the room where you keep the pet is properly ventilated. Keep near fan, AC or cooler. You will see that the curtains are always in the house during the high sun.

6. In many cases, it is seen that owners cut the fur of excessively hairy dogs to relieve them in the heat. But this is a serious mistake. It really hurts them. Because their fur actually protects them from heat.

What not to do?

  • Don’t forget to pick up your pet in a car that has been parked in the sun for a long time
  • Do not take out between 11 am and 5 pm
  • Consult a doctor if you notice any change in behavior
