How to Change Your Gmail Username: If you have been unhappy with your old Gmail username for a long time and have wanted to change it, there is good news for you. The tech giant Google has introduced a new feature that allows users to change their Google account's email username (specifically, the part preceding "@gmail.com"). This means you no longer need to create a brand-new account just to get a new, better username.

Which Users Currently Have Access to This Feature?

According to the company, this facility is currently available to users in the United States. However, it will be gradually rolled out to other countries in the coming weeks. This means that users in India can also expect to see this feature very soon.

A New Upgrade for Your Digital Identity

Google explains that this feature was developed with users' changing needs in mind. You can now modify your account's username to reflect your current identity. Once you select a new username, it will become your primary login ID, which you can use to access Gmail, Photos, Drive, and other services.

How to Change Your Gmail Username

If this feature has already become available on your account, you can change your username by following a few simple steps. First, navigate to your Google Account settings. Next, tap on the "Personal Info" section. Here, you will find an "Email" option; click on it. Then, select "Google Account email" and proceed to the "Change Google Account email" option. Now, enter your new username and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. If you do not see this option, it means the feature has not yet been rolled out to your account.

Important Things to Know Before Changing Your Username

Making this change will *not* result in the deletion of your old Gmail address. Instead, it will become an alternate email address linked to your account. You will continue to receive messages on both your old and new email addresses. Furthermore, there will be no changes to your data—such as emails, photos, and files.

If needed, you can also switch back to your old email address. However, please note that once you create a new Gmail address, you will not be able to create another new username for the next 12 months.

Why is this update significant?

This feature is particularly beneficial for users whose existing username no longer aligns with their professional or personal identity. Now, you can effortlessly update your digital identity and adopt a new username while continuing to use the same account.
