Hyderabad: Two persons were sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 each under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl, in a case that was reported at Chandrayangutta Police Station in 2022.
Mohammed, 24, a resident of Balapur in Rangareddy district, and Ishaq Khan, 19, a resident of Chandrayangutta, were served the sentences by G Uday Bhaskar Rao, the Fast Track Sessions Judge for POCSO cases at Haca Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday, April 1.
As per the facts of the case, Mohammed, who used to work at a scrap shop near the victim’s house in Chandrayangutta, repeatedly took her forcibly to the bathroom inside the scrap shop and sexually assaulted her.
Subsequently, one day, Mohammed’s friend Ishaq also called her and they both repeated the same act, and threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone. If she failed to oblige, they threatened to beat her badly.
According to the victim’s mother, both the accused sexually assaulted her multiple times. It was only after the girl went into depression, and when her mother gave her the courage to explain what was wrong, that the girl revealed the gory details of how she was violated.
When the victim’s mother informed her husband, who lives in Kerala, about what happened, he asked her to lodge a complaint at Chandrayangutta, after which a complaint was filed by the mother on May 31, 2022.
The court has also ordered compensation of Rs 5 lakh to be payable to the victim, and also the fine amount of Rs 22,000 payable by Mohammed (accused 1) and Rs 20,000 payable by Ishaq Khan (accused 2) to the victim.
