An explosion outside the BJP Punjab office in Chandigarh on Wednesday has triggered a major security response, with police launching a multi-angle investigation into the incident. The blast occurred near a scooter parked outside a building adjacent to the party office in Sector 37, raising concerns over the safety of political establishments. While no casualties have been reported so far, authorities are treating the incident seriously amid heightened alert across security agencies.

Blast Outside BJP Office

According to initial reports, the explosion took place around 5 pm near an Activa scooter parked close to a blood bank building next to the BJP office. The impact of the blast damaged a scooter and a nearby car, with debris hitting a wall in front of the site.

Chandigarh Police quickly cordoned off the area, restricting access as forensic teams began examining the scene. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) team has also reached the spot to assist in evidence collection and analysis.

Crude Bomb Suspected

Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur said preliminary findings suggest the explosion may have been caused by a crude bomb-like object. However, it remains unclear whether the device was planted at the location or thrown from a distance.

“We are investigating all angles,” she said, adding that further details would emerge after a thorough forensic examination.

Leaders Raise Concerns

BJP leader Vineet Joshi said the blast was heard outside the office, followed by smoke and panic in the area. He confirmed that while vehicles were damaged, no injuries have been reported.

Describing the incident as concerning, he said such an explosion outside a political office raises serious questions about security. He also noted that the party’s state leadership had been present at the office in recent days, though no senior leaders were at the site at the time of the blast.

Security agencies have been placed on high alert as investigations continue to determine the nature and intent behind the explosion.
