Nancy Metayer Bowen, the vice mayor and commissioner of Coral Springs, was found dead in her home. She was a Florida Democratic politician set to run for Congress. According to TMZ, police said that her husband has been arrested in connection with her death.

Speaking about her death, local police said that they went to her home on Wednesday morning (April 1, 2026) for a wellness check and found her dead body. The exact cause and manner of her death were not known at the time of filing of this report. According to officers, Nancy's husband, Stephen Bowen, is in custody, and her death is being investigated as a domestic violence incident. Police also stated that there were no additional suspects.

Nancy was set to run for Congress


Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz said that Nancy was on the verge of announcing her candidacy for Congress. According to the Miami Herald, the announcement had been planned for Thursday.

Nancy was all set to run in a Democratic primary for the seat held by Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who was indicted for allegedly funneling millions of dollars of disaster relief funds to her campaign, the outlet reported, citing sources.

Elected in 2020, Nancy made history as the first Black and Haitian American woman to serve as a commissioner in Coral Springs. She secured reelection in 2024, and in November 2025, she was appointed to a second term as the city’s vice mayor.

In addition to her role as Vice Mayor, Metayer Bowen serves as a Commission Liaison to several committees, including the Accessibility Advisory Group, Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Charter School Advisory Board and Board of Directors, Environmental Sustainability Committee, Solid Waste Authority, Multicultural Advisory Committee, Broward League of Cities, and the Broward County Climate Change Task Force, City of Coral Springs website.
