Kerala Election Manifesto 2026: With less than a week to go for the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) have unveiled their manifestos, placing welfare, employment, and social security at the center of their campaign narratives. While both fronts have focused on voter-centric promises, their approaches reflect distinct policy priorities aimed at appealing to key segments of the electorate.
The LDF, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, released a comprehensive two-volume manifesto outlining 60 major programmes. The document emphasises employment generation, infrastructure expansion, and social welfare as its core pillars.
Among its key promises is enhanced healthcare support for bedridden patients, ensuring sustained assistance to vulnerable groups. The LDF has also pledged guaranteed employment for students completing their education in Kerala, with a target of creating 60,000 jobs within the current academic year, as per reports. Notably, half of these opportunities will be reserved for women.
In addition, the alliance has promised to increase welfare pensions to Rs 3,000 per month and offer interest-free loans to educated youth to promote entrepreneurship. On infrastructure, the LDF reiterated its commitment to a high-speed north-south rail corridor, positioning it as crucial for the state’s long-term development.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi remarked that the past decade has been a period of rebuilding the self-confidence of society, a change that people themselves recognise. He explained that the manifesto not only highlights the projects already implemented by the LDF government but also lays out promises for the future. “The government is committed to implementing every item mentioned in this manifesto,” he said, adding that the LDF has a history of fulfilling its past promises.
According to him, the ultimate goal is to transform Kerala into a developed state, something that requires the continued support of the people. Vijayan stressed that the government is moving forward despite challenges and what he described as neglect from the Centre. He called the manifesto a blueprint for comprehensive development, one that could bring significant changes across agriculture, industry, education, and health. He further noted that the LDF prioritises creating more employment opportunities for youth and improving the living standards of ordinary citizens.
The UDF, on the other hand, launched its manifesto in Kochi, with Opposition Leader V D Satheesan unveiling the document. The release event was attended by Revanth Reddy, who served as the chief guest. Built around a “5+1 guarantee” framework, the UDF manifesto draws inspiration from commitments highlighted by Rahul Gandhi during the Puthu Yuga Yatra in Thiruvananthapuram.
Among its major promises is free travel for women on Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses, aimed at improving mobility and participation. The alliance has also proposed a Rs 25 lakh health insurance scheme for every household, named after former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
The UDF has pledged to increase welfare pensions from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, matching the LDF’s promise. It also plans to create a dedicated ministry for senior citizens, reflecting a targeted approach toward ageing populations.
Additionally, the manifesto includes Rs 1,000 monthly assistance for college-going girl students and interest-free loans for young entrepreneurs, underscoring its focus on youth empowerment.
Citing governance examples from Telangana, Satheesan expressed confidence that the UDF would implement its promises swiftly if voted to power.
As campaigning enters its final stretch, both alliances are banking on welfare-driven agendas to sway voters, setting the stage for a closely contested electoral battle in Kerala.
