Aussie spinner Adam Zampa made the strange decision to opt for playing the PSL instead of the IPL. The 34-year-old leg-spinner, who helped Australia win the 2021 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup, gave an even more bizarre reason why he did so. While the likes of Blessing Muzarabani snubbed the PSL to play the IPL, Zampa is going the other way.
Adam Zampa’s Reason for PSL Over IPLZampa said that he chose PSL over the IPL because he felt that he was not being paid enough for his skill set by the IPL and because the IPL ran too long, did not see it reasonable for him to play. Speaking on the ARY Podcast, he said he was happy with the PSL. The Karachi Kings roped him in for the equivalent of Rs. 1.51 crore. In 2025, SRH bought him in the mega auction for Rs. 2.4 crore and it was his 4th time since 2016. Zampa has never been in one franchise for too long and has played just 22 games.

"I pulled out of the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, I just don’t get the money that is there for other skill sets. And for the amount of time that the IPL takes, it just didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing it,” he said.
"I was going to have a break, but PSL was on the radar about a month ago. It all happened pretty quickly, but I’m enjoying it," he added.

Zampa’s skipper is none other than former teammate David Warner. As of now, Zampa has taken three wickets in two PSL games at an economy rate of 4.62 so he is clearly doing a good job.
Adam Zampa’s T20I & IPL NumbersIn the IPL, Zampa has taken 31 wickets in 22 games with best figures of 6/19. In T20Is, the leg-spinner has 147 scalps from 115 games with a personal best of 5/19. He’s been around in the IPL and international cricket since 2016. One could see him around for another couple of years if not more depending on form and fitness.
