Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday, April 2, issued a revised schedule for the conduct of elections to Ward no 6 of Makthal Municipality in Narayanpet district, following the adjournment of the earlier poll due to the death of a candidate.

The SEC said the election process for the ward was halted after the demise of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Erukali Mahadevappa ahead of polling, which was originally scheduled on February 11.

In accordance with the Telangana Municipalities and Municipal Corporations (Conduct of Election of Members) Rules, 2019, the BJP was given seven days to nominate a replacement candidate, which it has since done.

Issuing a fresh notification, the commission has now called upon registered voters of Ward no 6 to elect their representative as per the revised election programme.

According to the schedule, the last date for filing nomination by the new BJP candidate is April 6, followed by scrutiny and publication of the validly nominated candidate on April 7. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 10.

Polling will be held on April 18 between 7 am and 5 pm, while counting of votes will take place on April 20 from 8 am onwards. The result will be declared soon after the completion of counting, the SEC said.
