Hyderabad: The Sarpanch of the Masaipet village in Kaddam mandal of Nirmal district allegedly died by suicide after drinking pesticide on Friday, April 3. Her family has alleged domestic violence as the reason behind the extreme step.
According to Kaddam Police, the victim, Durgam Laharika, had been married for the past 14 years and has two children. Recently, she had an argument with her husband where he allegedly hit her.
After the argument, Laharika had been staying with her parents but had returned to her husband on Friday. There, she consumed pesticide and tried to take her life.
She was rushed to a hospital in Khanapur. However, her car met with an accident on the way. While the accident was not serious, and Laharika was switched to a different vehicle, she could not make it in time and died before reaching the hospital.
Police have registered a case under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are trying to nab the husband.
