According to the latest data of an extra marital dating platform named ‘Gleeden’, the number of its users in India has crossed 40 lakh. This is not just a number, but also a glimpse of changing thinking and new form of relationships.
In a survey conducted in 2024, more than 1500 married Indians aged 25 to 50 years were interviewed. It found that more than 60% of people are ready to adopt alternatives to traditional relationships – such as open relationships or other modern dating methods.
This change is not limited to just one platform. According to Ashley Madison’s 2025 data, cities like Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu have now become part of such trends, which were earlier considered limited only to big cities.
According to data:
Users spend an average of 1 to 1.5 hours daily on these platforms. The special thing is that maximum activity is seen between 12 to 3 in the afternoon and 10 to 12 in the night, i.e. the times when people are alone or free.
Pattern of choice:
Although big cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Pune are still ahead, now the use of such platforms is also increasing rapidly in cities like Lucknow, Surat, Patna and Guwahati. This is a clear indication that the change in thinking regarding relationships is no longer limited to metro cities only.
An important aspect of this trend is the increasing participation of women. According to statistics, women are now more independent than before and ready to take their own decisions. However, the question also arises whether this change is a sign of empowerment of women or does it reflect emotional deficiency in the existing relationships?
