Shreyas Iyer Shines as Punjab Kings Seals 5-Wicket Win Against CSK

A solid fifty from Shreyas Iyer has secured a comfortable 5-wicket victory for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2026 game against Chennai Super Kings played at Chepauk.

By this win they moved to the top spot in the IPL 2026 points table with two straight wins in the ongoing season.

After invited to bat first, Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the innings for CSK while Arshdeep Singh opened the bowling attack.

Xavier Bartlett brought the first breakthrough dismissing Sanju Samson for 7 runs. Ayush Mhatre who came to bat showed intent from the first ball. With Mhatre and Ruturaj at crease, CSK made a decent score of 57 runs in the powerplay.

With Ruturaj played a supportive innings, Ayush Mhatre smashed a fifty. Chahal brought the second breakthrough dismissing CSK captain Ruturaj for 28 runs.

After Shivam Dube joined the side, Ayush Mhatre lost his wicket on a wide yorker delivery where he gave the ball in hands of Yuzvendra Chahal.

Karthik Sharma who came to bat got dismssed on a lbw from Marco Jansen’s delivery. Sarfaraz Khan who came to bat added 32 runs off 12 deliveries before being dimissed by Vijaykumar Vyshak.

With Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer at Crease, Chennai Super Kings scored 209 runs in 20 over innings.

Shivam Dube scored unbeaten 45* with Vijaykumar Vyshak bagging two wickets while Xavier Bartlett, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged one wicket each.

Chasing 210 run target, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings while Khaleel Ahmed opened the bowling attack.

The duo made a solid start scoring 61 runs for the first wicket. Priyansh Arya made a solid start scoring 39 runs off 11 deliveries. With Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly at crease, Punjab Kings added 68 runs in the powerplay.

After a run out of Prabhsimran Singh for 43* runs, Anshul Kamboj bagged the wickets of Cooper Connolly and Shreyas Iyer for 36 and 50 runs respectively.

Nehal Wadhera added 10 runs before being dismissed by Matt Henry. With Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis at crease, Punjab Kings completed their chase in the 19th over.

Both Matt Henry and Anshul Kamboj bagged two wickets whole other bowlers ended their spells wicketless. Punjab Kings will play their next match agianst Kolkata Knight Riders on April 06 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
