Congress General Secretary (Communication) Jairam Ramesh held a press conference in Delhi on Friday. During this, he said that this special session is not only about Nari Shakti Vandan Act, but also about delimitation. Amendments will be brought in the Nari Shakti Vandan Act within just 30 months, and the Constitution will also be amended regarding delimitation. The Congress MP said, ‘Modi government has made an announcement – there will be a special session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on 16, 17 and 18 April. On March 16, Kiren Rijiju writes a letter to Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Shri Mallikarjun Kharge that we want to talk to the Congress Party. The reason given was that they wanted to make some amendments in the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. Kharge replied the same day – You call an all-party meeting, give a written proposal, we all will together discuss your proposal.

Congress leader Ramesh further said, ‘On March 24, all the opposition parties again wrote a letter to Kiren Rijiju ji asking him to call an all party meeting after April 29, because by then the ECI Model Code of Conduct will be implemented.’ He further said, ‘On March 26, Kiren Rijiju ji writes a letter to Mallikarjun Kharge ji that we again demand that the Congress party meet us and talk to us, so that we can take forward the proposal for constitutional amendment. Kharge ji replied – Call all the parties and hold an All Party Meeting collectively and call this All Party Meeting after 29th April.

In the press conference, Congress General Secretary said, ‘Letters were exchanged from March 16 to March 26, but BJP had already made up its mind that a special session should be called on March 3-4. In the end, Rijiju ji took a unilateral decision and decided to call a special session on 16, 17, 18 April. It is clear that this special session will be called during the code of conduct a few days before the West Bengal and Tamil Nadu elections.

He said, ‘Kiren Rijiju ji has only talked about Nari Shakti Vandan Act in all his letters. But now it has become clear that this special session is not only about the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, but also about delimitation. The surprising thing is that delimitation was never mentioned to us, there was never any discussion on it. Now it has become clear that amendments will be brought in the Nari Shakti Vandan Act within just 30 months, and the Constitution will also be amended regarding delimitation. These two issues will come up in the special session of these three days.
