Beyond Paradise could see the exit of one character following Friday night's episode. During the instalment, Zoe Williams (played by Melina Sinadinou) expressed her desire to leave Shipton Abbott and go abroad.

During a discussion with her boss, Martha Goodman (Sally Bretton), Zoe opened up about being bored with her life and wanting to do more. She even mentioned Martha's trip to the Caribbean, where she met Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) in Death in Paradise.

She also let slip that she was thinking of going to Australia after bumping into PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn). In a brief nod to the Death in Paradise spin-off, Return to Paradise, Zoe said she was thinking of going to Dolphin Cove, which is where the spin-off is set.

As the duo bumped into each other, Zoe said, "Sorry, I was miles away."

"In Dolphin Cove," Kelby replied, to which Zoe asked, "Have you been?"

"I wish," the police officer replied. "It just says there. Sorry, I wasn't snooping; it caught my eye. It looks like paradise. Are you planning on a holiday?"

"I am thinking about going travelling, seeing a bit of the world," Zoe replied. "That is what life is about, isn't it?"

This won't be the first exit on the cards in Beyond Paradise, as Humphrey has also been tasked with making a tough decision at the police station.

Humphrey has been told he has to let one team member go to save money at the police station. But who will he choose?

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Kris discussed the heartbreaking storyline, "I mean, there always has to be some kind of challenge for Humphrey in terms of, because, like I said, you know, otherwise he just wanders around.

"I mean, it's that paradox, isn't it, about TV detectives, they're sort of fish out of water, they don't really like rules, and yet they exist in one of the most sort of institutional, authoritarian, hierarchies, the police force."

He continued, "He hates any kind of authority, he hates rules, he hates being told what he has to do, and so it's thrust upon him, and it literally comes knocking on his door as it does. You know, he really detests that, really dislikes it, and he doesn't like the pressure.

"And also, he loves his team. He feels like losing one of them would be like losing an appendage, or a part of him, you know.

"He doesn't feel like he's the boss. He feels that they all bring a sort of an equal amount to the Melange, you know, to the Jamboree, and so I think he's thrust into this, as I said about him, living on a boat, he's quite happy living on a boat."

"It's not that he doesn't think about Martha, it's just not on his radar. He's this slightly neurodiverse kind of guy, and so these things are thrust upon him, and he doesn't necessarily deal with it very well," Kris added.

Beyond Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
