Earthquake tremors were felt in many areas of North India including Delhi-NCR, Jammu-Kashmir and Chandigarh. An earthquake of 5.9 magnitude occurred on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, shaking many areas. In Jammu and Kashmir, people got scared due to two tremors, while in Noida people came out of offices and homes. At present there is no news of any damage. Before the elections in West Bengal, the Election Commission has taken a tough stance on deputing about 2,185 policemen for the security of more than 1,000 people associated with TMC. Considering this as a serious matter, the Commission has instructed the DGP to conduct an impartial review within 2 days. After the implementation of the Public Trust (Amendment) Bill, 2026, about 1,000 minor crimes have become decriminalized. Smoking a cigarette for the first time in the metro or in a public place will no longer result in jail, but a fine or warning. Changes have been made in 784 sections of 79 laws.
