Delhi Capitals Triumph Over Mumbai Indians

New Delhi [India] - On Saturday, Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Mukesh Kumar highlighted the significance of an aggressive approach while bowling in T20 matches.

The Delhi Capitals achieved a six-wicket victory against the Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, marking their second consecutive win in the IPL 2026 season.

In pursuit of 163 runs, the Capitals successfully chased down the target in just 18.1 overs, thanks to Sameer Rizvi's impressive 90 runs off 51 balls and Pathum Nissanka's 44 runs off 30 balls, despite a shaky start at 7 for 2.

Earlier in the match, the Delhi bowlers executed a disciplined strategy, limiting the Mumbai Indians to 162 for 6 on a sluggish pitch. Mukesh Kumar was the standout performer with figures of 2 wickets for 26 runs in 3 overs, while Skipper Axar Patel, Vipraj Nigam, and Lungi Ngidi contributed with vital breakthroughs.

After the match, Mukesh Kumar stated, "Our strategy was to bowl first if we won the toss and keep their score low. We managed to restrict them to around 160, which set us up for the win."

Commenting on Sameer Rizvi's performance, he remarked, "He has always been very positive in practice. He mentioned that if he got off to a good start, he could play a long innings, and he’s proving that right. This is fantastic for the team and crucial for our victories."

Rizvi, who was again utilized as the Impact Player, played a pivotal role in shifting the momentum during the middle overs, ensuring DC finished the match with 11 balls remaining.

Regarding the support from the team management, he noted, "This tournament spans 14 matches, and without the team's backing, it can be challenging. Here, everyone supports one another and encourages us to adhere to our strategies, which is vital."

Mukesh also shared insights on the clarity of his role prior to the season, saying, "We have practice matches before the main season. Performing well there helps gain the management's trust. I had solid practice games and regular discussions with Axar bhai during the off-season, who advised me on areas to enhance, which are crucial for the season. That support is now evident in my performances."

With this victory, the Capitals have secured two wins out of two matches, including a successful home opener.

Next, the Delhi Capitals will face the Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 8, 2026.
