The ruling party also promised skilling of tribal boys and girls to ensure they get jobs.
Agartala, Apr 5: On Sunday, Chief Minister Manik Saha introduced the BJP's manifesto for the upcoming elections to the tribal council, scheduled for April 12. The manifesto includes commitments to recognize the Kokborok language, develop a master plan for Khumulwng, and establish a football academy and a medical college.
The elections for the 28-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will take place on April 12, with vote counting set for April 17.
During a press conference in Khumulwng, Saha addressed allegations of corruption within the Tipra Motha-led TTADC, asserting that the BJP would tackle any "unethical practices" if they gain control of the council.
The manifesto outlines plans to rename the TTAADC to the Tripura Autonomous Territorial Council (TATC), officially recognize Kokborok and other tribal languages, and safeguard the customary laws and traditions of tribal communities.
Additionally, the party aims to establish a medical college, create a comprehensive development plan for Khumulwng, expand the Mukhya Mantri Rubber Mission, and set up a modern football academy.
Furthermore, the ruling party has pledged to enhance job training for tribal youth to improve employment opportunities.
Saha emphasized that the BJP's primary objective is to accelerate development in tribal regions if they are elected to govern the council.
He noted, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent 'Mann ki Baat' broadcast, commended the installation of solar panels in Reang refugee camps and the provision of drinking water in Jampai hills. Our focus remains on development across all areas, whether plains or hills," he stated.
The BJP is contesting all 28 seats and is confident of winning the tribal council elections.
Present at the event were BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, and party vice president Rebati Tripura.
