Now new research has come out regarding this medicine, in which it has been considered dangerous for the kidneys. This medicine has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
What does the new research say?
- The effects of the drug Rosuvastatin were discussed at America’s Johns Hopkins University.
- Research was done on how much and what effect this medicine has on the kidneys.
- Initial test reports have revealed that this medicine is causing damage to the kidneys.
- Symptoms have appeared in some patients. Blood and protein have been found in the urine of these patients.
- At present, research on this medicine has not been done on a long and large scale.
What did the researchers find?
- Research was done on about 9 lakh people in the university regarding the effect of this medicine.
- About 1.5 lakh people were taking Rosuvastatin medicine. At the same time, 8 lakh people were taking Atorvastatin medicine.
- Blood in urine was found in about 2.9 percent of the patients taking Rosuvastatin and protein problem was found in 1 percent of the patients.
- A higher risk was found in those taking rosuvastatin compared to atorvastatin.
- Along with this, the risk of hematuria was found to be 8 percent higher and the risk of proteinuria was 17 percent higher.
- This medicine was also being given to people with weak kidneys.
