The 19th season of the Indian Premier League has started and there are many players in it who have been a part of the league for a long time. Now if someone has been playing for such a long time, then he must have some special achievement in his name or that player must have achieved some milestone or the other. But there is one player who is in his 10th year in the IPL and has made some small and important contributions during this period. Yet, despite being an all-rounder, this player has neither scored a half-century nor taken more than 3 wickets. This player is Washington Sundar.
Indian team's spin-all-rounder Sundar has been active in IPL since 2017. He made his debut in IPL at the age of just 17 and since then he has been playing in every season. His main role is off-spin bowling but he is also capable of making important contributions with the bat. On the basis of this ability, he has remained in the league and has played in the teams of star players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers.
So far in his IPL career, Sundar has entered the field on behalf of 4 different teams. However, sometimes he could not play all the matches of the season and was often in and out of the playing-11. Still, he has made valuable contributions to almost every team on some occasions. But personally no big or small achievement could be recorded in his name. Statistics show that this 26-year-old all-rounder has played a total of 68 matches so far but he has never been able to score a half-century nor take more than 3 wickets in an innings.
Since making his debut for Pune Super Giants in 2017, Sundar has worn the jersey of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and now Gujarat Titans. During this period, he got a chance to bat in 47 innings of 68 matches, in which he scored 533 runs. His highest score has been 49 runs. He took the responsibility of bowling in 64 innings but could take only 40 wickets. His best performance is 3 wickets for 16 runs. He has not been able to take 10 wickets in any season. Sundar took 8-8 wickets in 2017 and 2020.
Washington Sundar is playing for Gujarat Titans this year and has got a chance in both the matches. However, he could score only 22 runs and take only 1 wicket. Gujarat seems to be reposing confidence in him this year. In such a situation, this all-rounder has a chance to improve his unwanted record in IPL 2026.
