The political conflict over Naxalism and deployment of security forces has intensified in Chhattisgarh. Amid questions being raised regarding the withdrawal of security forces from Bastar, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao has made a scathing attack on former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Sao has directly alleged that Bhupesh Baghel never wanted Naxalism to be completely eradicated from Chhattisgarh. He said that Baghel had nothing to do with the development and prosperity of the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Sao said in clear words that the hands of police and security personnel were tied in the government of Bhupesh Baghel. The security forces were not given complete freedom to act, due to which the anti-Naxal operations were directly affected. He claimed that when the Congress government was formed, the Naxalites had celebrated. Sao further said that even today the intention of Bhupesh Baghel and his party is becoming clear again and again that they are not in favor of ending Naxalism. This statement has come at a time when the state government is working with a new strategy in Naxal affected areas.
On the question of withdrawal of security forces, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao clarified the situation. He said that this decision will be taken only after assessing the circumstances. The withdrawal of troops will be considered only when the situation in Bastar and other Naxal affected areas is completely under control. This means that the government will not take any action without strengthening the security situation. This decision is considered very important for the security and peace of the state.
Government plans are also ready for the rehabilitation of Naxal affected people. Deputy Chief Minister Sao said that the government has made a better rehabilitation policy for the surrendered Naxalites. The main objective of this policy is to connect such people with the mainstream of the society, so that they can leave the path of violence and live a respectable life. This includes aspects such as education, employment and other social support. The government believes that the rehabilitation policy will encourage the Naxalites to lay down their arms and help in restoring peace.
Along with this, the government is also emphasizing on extending the benefits of government schemes to the common citizens living in Naxal affected areas. There is often a lack of development and government facilities in these areas. The government is trying to ensure that basic facilities like education, health, roads, electricity and drinking water reach every citizen. By doing this, the government aims to improve the standard of living of the people of these areas and they can come out of the influence of Naxalites and join the mainstream. This initiative is an important part of the strategy to root out Naxalism, where development and public welfare are also given equal attention, rather than just the use of force.
