For the second consecutive time, business of more than Rs 5 lakh crore has been done through this portal. However, the figures are slightly less than last year. But the turnover of more than Rs 5 lakh crore is also not less in any case. Most of the government orders are seen through this portal. Which includes government companies like Coal India, NTPC, NLC India, IOC Ltd, SAIL and ONGC. Let us also tell you what kind of figures have been revealed by the government.

Orders worth Rs 5 lakh crore for the second consecutive year

Public procurement platform Government e-Marketplace (GeM) facilitated transactions worth Rs 5.03 lakh crore in 2025-26, which is 7.4 percent less than the previous financial year. GeM had facilitated transactions worth Rs 5.43 lakh crore in 2024-25. GeM CEO Mihir Kumar said that this decline in growth could be due to less contribution from the Coal Ministry; Its share in total sales decreased from 34 percent to 20 percent (Rs 1,02,219 crore) in 2025-26. Coal India Ltd purchased goods and services worth Rs 82,285 crore through this platform in 2025-26.

Inclusion of new functionalities

Kumar told reporters here that GeM achieved a total gross merchandise value (GMV) of Rs 18.4 lakh crore, which also includes crossing Rs 5 lakh crore GMV in 2025-26. He also said that the platform has added many new functionalities like rate contract and global tender inquiry etc. to increase its efficiency. He said that this platform has now been upgraded so that it can support multi-currency bidding and participation of international sellers.

Trade will be done with foreign companies

The GTE functionality will help companies from India's free trade agreement partners, such as UAE and UK. India has opened up government procurement under these agreements with certain conditions. Companies from these countries can participate in global tenders of Indian Government departments and institutions. The main ministries to purchase from GeM in 2025-26 included ministries of coal, defence, petroleum and natural gas, power, finance and steel. Major CPSE buyers included Coal India, NTPC, NLC India, IOC Ltd, SAIL and ONGC.
