In Mumbai, the National Commission for Women convened to address a suo motu case concerning the song ‘Sarke Chunarr Teri’, which features Nora Fatehi alongside Sanjay Dutt. The meeting was led by chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, with lyricist Rakib Alam, director Prem, and representatives from KVN Productions in attendance.
During the session, Rahatkar raised serious concerns regarding the song's lyrics, deeming them disrespectful to women. She firmly rejected the defense presented by the accused, who claimed ignorance of the song's meaning, emphasizing that women's dignity should never be compromised for artistic expression.
The commission instructed all parties involved to avoid similar errors in the future. The accused offered a written apology, acknowledging that the song had negatively influenced societal perceptions.
They also committed to promoting women's empowerment over the next three months and will report back to the Commission. Nora Fatehi's legal representative attended on her behalf, but the commission did not accept this arrangement. A follow-up date of April 27, 2026, has been set for the accused to appear in person. Sanjay Dutt, who cited professional commitments abroad, is required to attend the Commission on April 8, 2026.
The controversy surrounding Nora Fatehi stems from the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the film ‘KD: The Devil’. Following its release, the track faced significant backlash for its perceived vulgar lyrics and suggestive dance moves.
Critics, including singer Armaan Malik, labeled the lyrics as a “new low,” while many social media users condemned the content as inappropriate. The situation escalated with legal complaints demanding a ban on the song, citing its potential negative impact on minors and public morality. In response to the growing criticism, the song was reportedly removed from YouTube.
