Malda: An appellate tribunal on Monday, in its second case, directed the ECI to include Congress' Ratua candidate Md Motakkin Alam in the electoral list. The order was passed by Appellate Tribunal Judge and former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, TS Sivagnanam.

The electoral rolls will be frozen on Monday night for the first phase of the Bengal polls.

Altogether, the fate of around 27 lakh people hangs in the balance in West Bengal. April 6 was the last date for filing appeals before the appellate tribunal for 152 assembly constituencies. However, widespread chaos prevailed across the state, with long queues of people waiting to submit their appeals.
