Lisa Kudrow, best known for her role in Friends, has shared her thoughts on modern comedy shows, and she believes they are not as bold as they used to be. According to her, many of today’s sitcoms avoid jokes that might make people uncomfortable, and this is making them less fun to watch.

She explained that older sitcoms were more daring and creative. Writers were not afraid to take risks or include unexpected humor. These bold jokes often made people laugh more because they were surprising and different. In her view, that fearless style is what made classic shows so memorable.

Today, however, many shows try to stay on the safe side. They avoid sensitive topics and focus on humor that is unlikely to offend anyone. While this may seem like a good idea, Kudrow believes it has made comedy weaker. She feels that when everything is too careful, it takes away the excitement and originality that comedy needs.

For Kudrow, the best kind of humor is the one that catches you off guard. It makes you laugh because you did not expect it. She believes those “risky” jokes, when done properly, are what truly entertain audiences. Without them, sitcoms can feel predictable and less engaging.

She also admitted that she does not watch many modern sitcoms because they do not interest her as much. Compared to older shows, she feels that today’s comedies lack strong impact. Even though they still have jokes, they do not leave the same lasting impression.

Her opinion has started a discussion among fans and viewers. Some people agree with her and feel that comedy today has become too careful. They miss the bold humor that older shows offered. Others, however, think that comedy has simply changed with time and now reflects modern values and social awareness.

Kudrow also pointed out that comedy is not just about making people laugh—it can also challenge ideas and push boundaries. When writers avoid taking risks, they may lose the chance to create something truly unique. She believes that there should be a balance between being respectful and being creative.

At the same time, she understands that audiences today are more sensitive than before. Because of this, writers may feel pressure to avoid certain topics. But she still feels that completely removing bold humor is not the right solution.
