Free Trade LPG Scheme: Amidst an LPG shortage in Ludhiana, the administration has launched the 'Free Trade LPG Scheme,' under which migrant workers can procure small cylinders—in 2 kg and 5 kg sizes—simply by presenting their ID proof.
Free Trade LPG Scheme: Migrant workers in Ludhiana—a renowned district in Punjab—have been facing significant hardships amidst a severe shortage of LPG cylinders. Long queues and the scarcity of gas had made life extremely difficult for these workers. In response, the district administration has launched the "Free Trade LPG Scheme" specifically for migrant workers.
How to Obtain an LPG Cylinder?
Under this scheme, migrant workers can now obtain a new LPG connection by presenting their Aadhaar card or any other valid ID proof.
A key feature of this initiative is that they will be provided exclusively with small cylinders—specifically 2 kg and 5 kg sizes—to ensure their immediate requirements are met with ease.
Workers to be Spared from Queuing
The district administration has issued strict directives to gas agency owners, instructing them to provide small cylinders to migrant workers under this scheme. Furthermore, the administration has urged factory owners to facilitate the process by preparing ID proofs for their workers and submitting them to the respective gas agencies.
The most significant relief offered is that gas agency owners will now deliver the small cylinders directly to the factories. Consequently, workers will no longer need to spend hours standing in queues. The district administration has made it clear that strict action will be taken against any agency owner who refuses to comply with these directives.
Control Room and Helpline for Grievances
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain stated, "To address public grievances, a dedicated control room has been established in the Committee Room at the GLADA office. This control room will remain operational daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Residents can register their complaints directly by contacting the helpline number: 9915155072." The administration emphasizes that this control room and helpline have been launched to ensure that no individual faces any difficulties regarding gas supply. Vigilance on Supply, Strict Action Against Black Marketing
DC Himanshu Jain stated, "The administration is in constant contact with gas agencies and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to ensure essential supplies for domestic consumers. Furthermore, Food Supply Inspectors have been deployed at the ground level to monitor the gas agencies."
He categorically asserted, "Any form of black marketing or misuse will not be tolerated. If anyone is found involved in such activities, legal action will be initiated against them. Additionally, the administration claims that this new initiative will provide significant relief to migrant laborers and help bring the gas shortage under control to a considerable extent."
