Arne Olsen dead: Power Rangers star dies after tragic cancer battle

A screenwriter who worked on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has died. Screenwriter Arne Olsen was 64, when he died from complications related to cancer on Saturday, April 4, in Vancouver, Canada.

His heartbroken wife, Dianne Olsen, confirmed the tragic news as reported by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. The star was also behind other hit films including the Burt Reynolds comedy Cop and 1/2, which was directed by Henry Winkler and starred Burt Reynolds. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was released in 1995 by 20th Century Fox, hitting cinemas between the second and third seasons of the hugely popular Mighty Morphin TV series.

Olsen frequently described a crowning achievement of his career as writing and directing the Canadian-produced dramedy Here's to Life! (2000), featuring Eric McCormack as a blackmailed retirement-home administrator.

The film went on to receive eight Genie Award nominations, claiming one victory.

Olsen served as co-writer on the thriller Black Ice (1992) and was among the credited screenwriters on All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 (1996), while also earning a Leo Award nomination in British Columbia for his sci-fi thriller Repeaters (2010).

He additionally penned the 1997 pilot for Escape From Atlantis for Starz/Encore, as well as a 2002 episode of the syndicated action series Relic Hunter, which starred Tia Carrere.

His final film was the Voltage Pictures thriller Distorted (2018), headlining John Cusack and Christina Ricci.

He also dedicated time to teaching screenwriting at Capilano (British Columbia) University and Vancouver Film School, while serving as a story editor on a considerable number of films.

He is survived by his wife, along with his children Ryan and Alyssa.
