WhatsApp for CarPlay—a standalone application designed for vehicle infotainment systems—has been launched by the company. This release is being hailed as a "major update." The new WhatsApp app for CarPlay is now available in India and other global markets. This new application introduces a host of new capabilities and features for users. Previously, WhatsApp for CarPlay was available only in a beta version via the TestFlight app, accessible exclusively to developers and users enrolled in the iOS beta program. According to reports, the beta version of the app previously featured the ability to view WhatsApp chat and call history. It is reported that these features have now been incorporated into the stable version of the app as well.
WhatsApp for CarPlay Supports End-to-End Encryption
On Tuesday, the instant messaging platform released version 26.13.74 of WhatsApp for iOS, which included several bug fixes. However, the most significant aspect of this new update is the introduction of a distinct and dedicated WhatsApp app for CarPlay, designed specifically for vehicle infotainment systems. Describing it as a "major update," WhatsApp announced the launch of WhatsApp for CarPlay via an event post on the App Store. WABetaInfo was the first to report this development.
The company states that WhatsApp for CarPlay is currently available in select markets worldwide, including India. It enables users to directly call and message "friends and groups" via their vehicle's infotainment system, provided their iPhone is connected to the system. At present, WhatsApp has not yet released comprehensive details regarding all the features available in this new CarPlay app; however, it is reported that the features previously observed in the beta version of the app have now been rolled out to the stable version as well.
According to reports, the WhatsApp for CarPlay app features two distinct sections dedicated to displaying chat and call history. This allows users to view who they have recently called or messaged via WhatsApp. Users can initiate calls directly from their vehicle's dashboard interface. However, to open the chat window, users will have to pull over and view the chat on their phone. It is reported that this measure was implemented to ensure that users' attention is not diverted while driving.
According to available information, users will reportedly be able to reply to WhatsApp messages using voice dictation. Until now, users had to rely on Siri to read incoming messages aloud and to send replies. This will no longer be necessary. Furthermore, both WhatsApp calls and standard phone calls will appear on the same screen. However, with the WhatsApp for CarPlay app, users will be able to view their recent WhatsApp calls separately on a dedicated screen.
